Acting
As a movie fanatic, it was a natural thing to be intrigued by the acting process, so at the tender age of 55 I found myself being in front of a camera filming a commercial and I liked it. It’s not an easy craft to master and much harder to make it profitable, but it is very satisfying. Can’t help to let the old ego soar when somebody mentions they’ve seen some of your work.
As an extension of acting, I am also writing a couple of movie scripts that have gotten some good reviews and hope to someday sell them. Who knows, right?
Commercials
PADRE JUAN was shot for a Mexican cellular company and it characterizes the human touch. TUYO Mobil being able to connect loved ones from the big cities to the small towns in Mexico.
THE PAWN BROKER is just that. The role is a supporting role. The topic is the ability of Angels to do miracles. In the end it’s all about the Los Angeles Angels baseball team and the coming from behind to win a pennant.
| THE BIG BOSS depicts the frustration of competition. It was shot for La Curacao Department Store. The topic being that La Curacao is so good, even the competition’s agent found a great bargain. |
Entertainment
The other night I woke up and couldn’t, for the life of me, go back to sleep. I turned the boob tube on and there was nothing good to watch. Just think about it- I have about a thousand channels and nothing to watch at 230 in the morning. Up and down scrolling through the channels from one end to another, I kept landing on “El Cantante”. Finally it dawn on me that if I was to watch TV, this was it; and why not. After all, the Jen was in it, right? Nice behind, maybe a nudie scene or two- Yeah…!
Man…! Why in the devil did I start to watch this schlock? It was ridiculously boring movie even though the subject was a real character, Hector Lavoe, whose music was an important milestone for the Latino people- the beginning of the Salsa music movement. Marc Anthony was weak, and if only he had been allowed to finish any of the songs, but in fact it was a total concentration on the guys drug problem, which I understand was the main focus, but there was just too much of it. And then there was JLo. I mean, I know she can act, but what happened? Maybe she was doing badly so that Marc Anthony wouldn’t feel so much out of place. Oh well! I have always maintained that singers should sing and actors should act and this movie happens to be one of the best examples of that idea… If I had a rating system from 1 to 10, El Cantante would be like a minus eleven…
